Mara Veld

Mara Veld is a contemporary ceramic artist working with hand-built forms, mineral surfaces and quiet sculptural compositions. Her practice is centred on irregularity, texture and restraint. Rather than pursuing perfect symmetry, Mara allows each object to develop through the natural behaviour of clay, subtle distortions and visible traces of the making process. She works primarily with stoneware and layered mineral finishes, creating vessels and sculptural objects that sit between function and pure form. Muted tones, tactile surfaces and restrained silhouettes give her pieces a calm, architectural presence. Mara’s work is shaped by an interest in material honesty and slow making. Each piece is built individually by hand, making variations in surface, proportion and texture an essential part of its character.
